Shares rise on optimistic trading

THE Irish market re-opened after the Christmas break with optimism among investors that the world economy and Ireland’s in particular will emerge from the downturn and begin to push on.

Shares rise on optimistic trading

The ISEQ index jumped 112.16 points to break the 3,000 mark and finish at 3,087.09.

The financial sector had a positive day as all three major banks made ground. AIB and Bank of Ireland improved 15c and 20c to €1.35 and €1.52. Irish Life and Permanent was also 20c better off at €3.50.
