BUILDING and construction output hit its highest quarterly decline – in volume terms – this decade, during the second three months of this year.

According to latest figures, published yesterday by the Central Statistics Office, the volume of output in the building and construction industry here fell by 39.3% between the beginning of April and the end of June; compared to the same three-month period last year.

This was up from an annualised fall of 35.5% for the first quarter of this year; which was the second most pronounced year-on-year fall since the start of the decade.
