Pay reduced in majority of firms

IBEC, the business lobby group, has said the majority of firms have introduced pay freezes or pay cuts and cut jobs in their fight to survive the recession.

These are the key findings of the IBEC business sentiment survey carried out last month of 508 companies that employ more than 86,000 people.

More than a fifth said they have cut pay over the period in an effort to lower costs and stay competitive.
