Dairy farmers get boost from ABC pricing system

TOP dairy farmers are looking with envy at their counterparts in co-ops which have adopted “ABC” milk pricing.

The pricing system rewards protein at a much higher rate. As a result, farmers with well-bred and well-managed herds are being paid at least 8c per litre more than farmers at the other end of the scale.

On the other hand, farmers unable to achieve high quality milk contents are losing out in the “ABC” co-ops such as Connacht Gold, which introduced the new pricing system about a year ago.
