‘Deterioration of public finances a cause for concern’

THE Central Bank governor John Hurley has said that “the deterioration of the public finances is a cause for serious concern”.

He said the Government has agreed to get back within European Commission guidelines by 2013 and “it is crucial that these targets are met”.

“The Commission on Taxation and the Special Group on Public Service Numbers and Expenditure Programmes will help identify measures that will improve the budgetary situation in coming years.
