Report fuels opposition attack

THE Opposition used the Central Bank report as an opportunity to once more hammer the Government’s economic record.

Fine Gael finance spokesman Richard Bruton said the document pointed to a series of errors by the Government, including a failure to address Ireland’s lack of competitiveness.

The report also proved that bank regulatory failures in Ireland were the result of a “failure to act” by the Government and the banks rather than a failure of structures, he said.
