AER LINGUS long-haul passenger numbers plunged more than 14% over the last year as the company sets about restructuring its operations.

In contrast short-haul passenger numbers increased almost 11%, meaning total numbers jumped 7.5% to just over one million passengers last month. This follows a 2.7% increase in May.

The short-haul load factor, which measures the proportion of seats filled, was 82%, almost 1% up on 2008, while long-haul load factor was 80.2%, down 1.9% on 2008.
