AN assurance from the Government that there will be no further cuts in forest premiums is being sought by the Irish Farmers’ Association.

IFA president Padraig Walshe said it is now nearly two months since the IFA recommended a deferred payment instead of the 8% cut to forest premiums proposed in the budget.

Farmers are losing confidence every day the uncertainty continues and the sector is damaged, he said, describing the delay as totally unacceptable and putting in serious question the Government’s commitment to the sector.
