THE ISEQ index closed down 111.41 points at 2,703.14 yesterday as hopes of an improvement in world economies faded.

The World Bank said prospects for the global economy remain unusually uncertain as it cut 2009 growth forecasts for most economies.

And the OECD said major economies will contract in 2009 and the problem of unemployment will linger.
