DESPITE a difficult economic climate, industrial production increased by 3.8% in April compared with the same month last year.

Figures from the CSO show the “modern” sector, comprising of hi-tech and chemical sectors, showed an annual increase in its production of 11.3% for the month of April. However, a decline of 14.9% was recorded in the rates of production for the more “traditional” industries.

The radio, television and communications sector took a particularly hard hit, experiencing a fall of almost 25%.
