THE European Commission is to review anti-competitive practices in the food supply chain, with a focus on the dairy and pigmeat sectors.

Agriculture and Food Minister Brendan Smith also revealed that the commission is undertaking a wider review of the retail sector, and that both reports will be completed by the end of the year.

Mr Smith said Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel had agreed with him and other ministers at the EU Council of agriculture ministers that transparency on prices and costs in the food chain needed to improve.
