EU LEADERS including Taoiseach Brian Cowen will assess the current economic situation at their summit in Brussels today and tomorrow.

Mr Cowen will be guest of honour at a seminar, Investing for the Future, hosted by the Government and Microsoft Europe and later he is expected to be a guest of the Liberal party, which Fianna Fáil has applied to join in the European Parliament.

The Taoiseach, who has just returned from his visit to US President Barack Obama in Washington, will brief his fellow leaders on progress with the guarantees to Ireland due to be part of the re-run of the Lisbon Treaty referendum in October.
