ISEQ index closes at 2,170.08

THE Irish market made a slight loss yesterday. Trading volumes in the morning were light, but picked up as the session wore on. The ISEQ index shed 3.80 points to 2170.08.

The financials had a mixed day as investors remained wary about a steady stream of negative news about the state of the banking sector. AIB tacked on 1.5c to 64.5c, while Bank of Ireland and Irish Life and Permanent lost ground, slipping 1.4c and 1.5c to 35.4c and e1.26.

In construction CRH lagged 13c to e16.23. Kingspan followed suit shipping 1c to e2.09. Grafton Group managed to buck the trend adding 3c to e1.35.
