Market up on low volumes

THE Irish market recovered yesterday following a slow start to the morning. Low volumes proved that investors were cautiously waiting for further information of the Government’s planned bank recapitalisation scheme. The ISEQ index managed to post a 15.39 point gain to finish the day at 2,478.08.

Among the financials, AIB and Bank of Ireland were positive movers adding 1c and 3c to €1.18 and 70c. Irish Life and Permanent rose 16c to €2.06.

In construction, CRH was the major laggard slipping 11c to €19.18. Sector peers Kingspan and Grafton Group managed to add 6.6c and 7c to close at€ 2.72 and €1.77.
