IFA to appear before Oireachtas committee to discuss energy crops

A DELEGATION from the IFA will today appear before the Oireachtas subcommittee on job creation through the use of renewable resources, to discuss the potential for growing and using energy crops in Ireland.

Committee chairman Willie Penrose TD said around 90% of Ireland’s energy is generated from imported fuel while the EU average is 50%.

Indigenously produced biomass has the potential to meet 10% of Ireland’s fuel needs by 2020.
