AN immediate review of what she has described as “draconian farming by dates legislation” was sought yesterday by member of the European Parliament for Ireland East, Mairead McGuinness.

She said that while current weather conditions are ideal for the spreading of farm manure (slurry), farmers were forbidden from doing so until January 12 and, in some areas, until January 15.

“We have the crazy situation of farmers looking out at good weather and ideal ground conditions but unable to go out to work on land until a man-made imposed date arrives.
