TRADE unions and opposition parties united in efforts to condemn the proposed Ryanair takeover of Aer Lingus.

“The most immediate concern is that, should Ryanair secure ownership of its main competitor in Ireland, the aviation industry here would be operating under a monopoly.

“Ryanair’s claim that the takeover will lead to the creation of 1,000 new jobs is uncertain, and there is no indication that any new Irish jobs would be created. Ryanair rarely employ staff directly in any event,” the union claims.
