A WEAKENING of sterling against the euro is seriously undermining the value of Irish beef exports to Britain.

Meat Industry Ireland (MII), which represents processors, made the claims yesterday when pointing out that the recession is hitting the Irish beef sector.

It said that continued negative comment by producer representatives and other commentators about current factory performance on cattle prices was unjustified.
