Industrial production to show good growth

IRELAND’s industrial production levels are expected to show good overall growth for the current year, following a further strong annual increase in September, but a slowing of growth is due in 2009.

New monthly industrial production and turnover figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), published yesterday, detailed a 4.3% rise in annual production levels for September, with the basic chemicals sector providing the main contribution with a year-on-year rise of 42% for the month in question.

The ‘modern’ sector (technology, chemicals, etc) saw a year-on-year rise of 9.1% in production levels in September, while there was a 7.3% year-on-year decline for the ‘traditional’ sector. On a monthly basis, meanwhile, production levels were down by 2.2% from August.
