IRISH members of the European Parliament are taking steps to stall a pesticide package which is currently making its way through the environmental committee in Brussels.

There are growing fears that the legislation would reduce the number of plant protection products available to such an extent that it could threaten European Union and Irish crop production and food supply.

Liam Aylward, MEP, said that the legislation sets out to protect the internal market from distortion of competition and to protect citizens’ health and the environment from the effect of pesticides.
