THE IFA is proposing a major new initiative on renewable energy from micro-generation on farms as part of its pre-budget lobby of Oireachtas members.

IFA president Pádraig Walshe said renewable on-farm generation from wind, solar or from anaerobic digestion has the potential to significantly reduce Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions, as well as cutting energy costs to farmers.

Mr Walshe said the IFA’s pre-budget submission includes measures to achieve a viable farming structure by tackling stamp duty and CGT constraints on farm consolidation.
