THE quota policy of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food was described by the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA) yesterday as a combination of fundamental misunderstanding and wishful-thinking that has effectively collapsed milk price.

President of the ICMSA Jackie Cahill said the feelings among dairy farmers were now running close to fury as they contemplated another round of price cuts.

These will leave them with a price 10 or 11 cents/l lower than that of last summer and at a time when all their input costs are heading into double-digit territory.
