Market hovers just above 4,000

THE ISEQ index plunged a further 155.48 to close at 4,050.19 as global markets fell on the back of the collapse of US investment bank Lehman Brothers.

There is also huge concern as to whether insurer AIG will be able to secure fresh capital after credit agency downgrades.

In the financial sector, AIB declined 56c to €6.95, Bank of Ireland dropped 16c to €4.62, Irish Life & Permanent weakened 51c to €5.34, while Anglo Irish Bank lost 10c to finish at €4.55.
