Value of household meat purchases increases by almost 7% to €1.24bn

THE value of household meat purchases in Ireland increased by almost 7% during the year ending July 2008 to reach €1.24 billion, according to the latest Bord Bia research.

But a slowdown in the growth rate in the last three-month period is believed to be linked to the economic downturn and the wet weather.

Most of the market growth during the year was due to rising prices across all meats while higher volumes of beef and sausages helped to offset some fall in other meats, particularly poultry.
