Market down on slower dollar

THE ISEQ index lost 61.96 points to close at 4,544.67 yesterday as the dollar recovery paused, leading to lower prices in retail, car and airline stocks, while commodity prices firmed up helping oil and mining shares.

Banks had a poor day with AIB falling 7c to €8.55; Bank of Ireland down 19c to €5.88; Anglo Irish Bank was down 35c to €6; Irish Life and Permanent fell 10c to €5.95.

In the construction sector, CRH added 3c to €18.28, Grafton Group dipped 5c to €4.17, while Kingspan added 5c to €6.82.
