ASKING prices for property have plunged almost 8% over the past year to an average €324,000, but sellers new to the market are remaining unrealistic about price expectations.

The fall meant that last month the average asking price for a house in Ireland was at the lowest point in more than two years.

The latest daft.ie house price index said many sellers new to the market were listing their properties at higher prices than those already on the market.
