THE ISEQ index recovered morning losses yesterday to finish the day at 4,936.78, up 42.26.

The main news of the day was the European Central Bank’s decision to increase its main interest rate by 0.25% to a seven-year record high of 4.25% in an effort to combat inflation.

The main financial stocks had a mixed day with AIB up 17c to €9.58, Bank of Ireland added 15c to €5.48, Anglo Irish Bank lost 3c to €5.67, while Irish Life & Permanent dipped 2c to €6.05
