THE agricultural science syllabus, which has been in existence since the late 1960s, must be upgraded to reflect the ever-evolving agri-food sector, according to Labour Party spokesperson Sean Sherlock, TD.

While the scientific principles of animal and crop husbandry remain relevant, the impact of the EU and the WTO on the agri-food sector needs to be reflected in an upgraded modern syllabus, said Mr Sherlock.

Mr Sherlock said a new syllabus reflecting these changes would benefit agricultural science at secondary level and society generally.
