THE first meeting between the Oireachtas and Stormont agriculture committees took place in Belfast yesterday.

World trade talks, joint approaches by ministers from North and south, co-operation on animal health and food safety and preserve and promote family farming were discussed.

Sinn Féin agriculture spokesman Martin Ferris, TD, said: “Given the role the EU has in determining policy it is vital there is the fullest possible co-operation between the two administrations and the two committees to ensure that Irish farming interests throughout the whole island are protected and advanced.”
