THE future role of apprenticeships in the Irish economy will be the key focus for delegates at the inaugural FÁS seminar, which will be officially opened by Enterprise, Minister Micheál Martin at Rochestown Park Hotel, in Cork today.

A discussion will take place at the conference on the proposal for a progression programme for craftspeople to gain a higher level award and to provide participants with higher technical skills and modules for business management.

Rody Molloy, director general of FÁS requested employers to consider the apprenticeship model of training across a wider field of occupations in the general services sector.
