US Federal Reserve chief faces first big test

AS the European economy starts to falter, the case against another interest rate hike becomes more compelling.

Already we have seen intervention by the US Federal Reserve which has cut one of its key interest rates.

The result was immediate. Markets in the US and Europe gained about 3%.
