Markets braced for oil price surge as supply concerns grow

OIL prices could hit new records within days an expert warned yesterday.

As Brent crude reached $78 per barrel yesterday fears increased that falling North Sea supplies and continuing speculation in oil by big international funds will drive the cost per barrel beyond $78.65, the all time high it hit last August.

At the time geopolitical uncertainties and supply constraints drove prices to new record levels.
