Live cattle exports surge 35%

Marts: Significant growth in live exports was achieved during 2006 as the recovery in exports of cattle on the hoof continues following a collapse during the early years of the decade.

Live cattle exports surge 35%

Live exports grew 35% last year as markets for calves and young stock were regained. Total cattle exports for the year increased to 250,000 head — up 65,000 head on 2006.

Calf exports increased over 68% to over 104,000 head from 62,000 head in 2005. Weanling and young store exports were 35% higher last year at over 113,000 head compared to 83,500 head the previous year.
