THE Government must not to be lulled into a false sense of security that the World Trade Organisation threat has receded, the IFA president Padraig Walshe warned after meeting US officials in Washington.

“US officials are aggressively determined to force beef imports into Europe, which would be at the direct expense of Irish farmers,” he said.

Mr Walshe explained to US officials and farm organisations the impact of decoupling and the fall in milk prices resulting from CAP reform. All officials he met were seeking greater access to EU markets.
