Two new swamp fever cases found

TWO further cases of Equine Infectious Anaemia, otherwise known as swamp fever, have been confirmed, according to the Department of Agriculture and Food.

They bring to 24 the number of cases confirmed since the middle of June.

The department said that while one of the latest cases was found in a non-thoroughbred horse on previously unrestricted premises, the horse had been identified, traced and tested under its extensive surveillance and control programme. The premises have now been restricted.
