Dairy industry ‘must take up fund’

IRISH Farmers’ Association president Padraig Walshe has urged the dairy industry to show greater urgency in taking up the unique opportunity provided by a new investment fund in the sector.

“For a sustainable dairy industry, we have to reverse the milk price cuts imposed on farmers. The only way to do so is for our industry to become the most efficient processor of dairy commodities in the Northern Hemisphere,” he said.

Mr Walshe said the investment scheme is a vital kick-start on the road to greater competitiveness, and co-ops must take it up without delay.
