THE pilot farm plastics collection scheme must be expanded to cover all local authorities, Fine Gael urged yesterday.

Close to 9,000 tonnes of farm plastic has already been collected in conjunction with the pilot scheme in counties Offaly, Mayo, Galway, Clare and Waterford.

Fine Gael agriculture spokesperson Denis Naughten TD said there is a clear demand for the service in other parts of the country. He said prior to the pilot scheme, farmers paid €3 million for a plastics collection service which has still not been provided.
