Coin set minted to celebrate baby’s birth

THE Central Bank has responded to demand from customers and produced a set of coins to celebrate the birth of a baby.

The set is available in pink or blue and features the eight coins minted in the year the baby is born. They will be available for the years 2006 onwards and go on sale to the public today at a cost of €25.

According to a spokesperson the Central Bank is very pleased to include the baby set in its range of collector coin sets. “Demand for our coin sets from collectors at home and abroad is very high, and we find that people use them to mark a special event or celebration such as a birth or christening, which may take place during the year. Now we are responding to demand from our customers for a set dedicated to marking the year of a baby’s birth.”

This is the first time the Central Bank has produced a coin set for a specific family event. The set is designed to commemorate the birth of a baby and it includes a pocket to hold the baby’s first photo and a memento box to hold special items such as a lock of hair or hospital identification tag.

The baby set can be purchased from the Central Bank on Dublin’s Dame Street, or by mail order. They are also available from An Post’s philatelic service and from the Trinity College gift shop.
