FG Brazil beef import warning for EU

FINE Gael wants the EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection Markos Kyprianou to attend a meeting of the Dáil Agriculture and Food Committee next month to discuss Brazilian beef imports.

Party spokesperson Denis Naughten, TD, said: “Recent inspections of slaughterhouses in Brazil uncovered a litany of breaches of health and safety regulations. Yet, the Irish Government and the European Commission continue to allow Brazilian beef to be imported.

“Every year Ireland consumes €17 million worth of beef, the majority of which comes from Brazil.”
