PRESSURE must be increased on the European Commission to compel it to enforce its own food law, the ICMSA declared yesterday.

Beef Committee chief Martin McMahon, who made the call, welcomed what he termed as Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan’s determined and principled stand on beef imports from Brazil.

Mr McMahon said Ireland should begin court proceedings against the Commission for failing to implement its own law. It should also consider a unilateral ban on beef imports until that law is enforced.
