Farmers call for NDC clarification

THE Irish Farmers Association yesterday called on the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS) and the co-ops to establish the role which the dairy industry wants to see the National Dairy Council (NDC) play in coming years.

Padraig Walshe, president, made the call in the light of the recent decision by Dairygold to pull out of the NDC, which promotes dairy products on the home market.

Dairygold recently confirmed that it had ceased collecting the NDC deduction from supplier milk price with effect from June 1.
