Almost €6bn wiped off Irish shares since June 1

THE Irish Stock Exchange has seen just under €6 billion wiped off its total share value since the start of the month, even though it rallied yesterday to finish up on the previous day.

The total value of shares trading on the ISEQ on Thursday June 1 was just under €99.4bn, while yesterday the final value was €93.5bn.

The turbulent week saw share prices fluctuate, initially on fears of a 0.5% hike in interest rates by the European Central Bank (ECB) and then as a result of the actual increase of 0.25%, which pushed rates up to 2.75%.
