Record number of prosecutions to be brought this year
Revenue’s investigations and prosecutions division has 101 cases or tax and duty evasion in the pipeline. It said some 61 cases of evasion are under investigation for potential prosecution, while the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is considering taking 12 cases.
A further 20 cases are currently making their way through the courts and the DPP has directed Revenue to take action in eight others. Last year, Revenue took 24 successful prosecutions, split evenly between tax evaders and duty evasions.
