Minister urges farmers to use scheme

SOME 2,300 people are participating in the Rural Social Scheme, but Minister Eamon Ó Cuiv said yesterday he was disappointed by the take-up in the south and east.

The numbers so far provided from 17 implementing bodies show that only 626 people are on the scheme in this region.

Mr Ó Cuiv said he was concerned that farmers don’t understand that this scheme is not a charity.
