NEW safety campaigns for those working on farms must be developed, Labour Party agriculture spokesperson Dr Mary Upton, TD, said yesterday.

She was commenting on the Health and Safety Authority’s annual report which revealed that 18 people died in accidents on Irish farms last year.

Dr Upton urged Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan to explore with the farming lobby how the rate of agriculture-related accidents could be reduced.
