Ban on British beef exports lifted

A DECADE-LONG ban imposed by the European Commission on British beef exports in a bid to control the spread of BSE was lifted yesterday.

It will mean gradually increased competition on EU markets for Irish beef, which Bord Bia is strongly promoting on key markets.

But a continuing EU ban on beef imports from regions of Brazil with foot and mouth disease is expected to create market opportunities.
