Lamb prices fall by 30 cents/kg

Marts: Lamb prices have tumbled, with the return to producers falling by up to 30 cents/kg (11p/lb) — the largest fall over a 48-hour period for a considerable time.

After a sharp decline on Thursday, prices paid to producers by processors were further reduced yesterday as orders for the holiday weekend were filled and factories showed weaker interest in supplies.

Demand for hoggets has been weakening as the number of new season lambs available has been gradually increasing, but both categories have suffered a similar fate on prices in recent days.
