ATTEMPTS by the country’s banks to have the Financial Regulator row back on its tough new sanctions regime have failed.

In a report the Financial Regulator said it is pressing ahead with its “administrative sanctions” plan with only minor changes.

When the sanctions are fully implemented, banks who breach the regulator’s guidelines will face fines of up to €5 million and can be named and shamed.
