Independent hits redundancy target

Independent Newspapers said last night it had reached its target of 205 voluntary redundancies.

The deadline for the €23 million package was yesterday.

Vincent Crowley, chief executive of Independent Newspapers (Ireland) said that technology and ever-increasing competition have forced Independent to take some hard decisions. “Change was imperative for the future competitiveness of our company and to ensure the security and generous terms of employment enjoyed by our remaining 410 staff.”
