€18m for Irish language films

The European Commission yesterday gave Britain the go-ahead to award grants worth €18 million to promote Irish-language film and television in Northern Ireland.

The fund is part of the British commitment in the Good Friday agreement of 1998. The beneficiaries will be independent audiovisual production companies and, in exceptional cases, broadcasters.
